October 8th Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like Mondays

Well, better start climbing the mountain again. Its Monday folks!

No matter if you’ve had a good or bad weekend the beginning of work or school week usually drives you mad again and again. But if you have a job that you like and you’re doing your first 6 months in a new work the Mondays may not bee so hazardous. If things are different the results also might be different. As it was for Brenda Ann Spencer, who decided to shoot children who were playing in a school playground across the street from her home in San Diego, California in 1979.

This 16-year-old killed two adults and injured eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her crime, and her only explanation for her actions when captured was "I don't like Mondays." What a lovely excuse. “I was like just so pissed that morning.”
Teenage angst can drive some girls quite mad. She also said: "I had no reason for it, and it was just a lot of fun." "It was just like shooting ducks in a pond." and "[The children] looked like a herd of cows standing around, it was really easy pickings.

I wouldn’t even want to shoot ducks. Nor cows.

Well, what the heck, let’s be a little cynical for Mondays sake this time. One’s loss is another ones victory. Bob Geldof and The Boomtown Rats released a single “I Don’t Like Mondays” just a month after this terrible strategy. The song topped the UK Chart at no. 1 single in July 1979.

Anyway, it’s a very good song. Nothing cynical about that.

So if you’re undergoing these kinds of feelings on your way to work try to release the hatred by kicking a light post or spitting dangerously close to innocent bystander walking beside you. You also might want use those murderous looks at fellow travelers at commuter train.

But do not kill anyone!

Here’s Boomtown Rats and I Don’t Like Mondays.
